GTA: Online is a uniquely-chaotic online experience that most other games cannot match. However, sometimes, this chaotic nature spills over to the game's maintenance side as well. Sometimes, players come across the "error screen" seen above, and it is wildly infuriating as it does not exactly explain what seems to be the problem. This error usually comes as a result of server maintenance from Rockstar, scheduled or otherwise. There were a couple of fixes updated by the company on their forums, but the article has since been removed.
A more basic fix to this problem for a lot of GTA: Online players has been to switch off their routers and modems for about 10 minutes and come back online. Make sure that "GTAV. Yes its an annoying and highly unsatisfying workaround, but at least it works and lets you play until the issue gets properly fixed.
Ive had the issue before, but its always been temporarily and usually lasted for a few minutes or so, this time we're talking a whole weekend, so something serious must be wrong.
Np mate, hope you eventually find a fix for it as I need it as well. Just a word of advice, dont get enticed to purchase premium for Betternet, I just did and the premium is actually worse than free. Also, theres no option to cancel your subscription anywhere in windows app, their website or in the confirmation email they send you upon registration.

For the reasons mentioned, I listed the things I did try, regardless of whether they solved anything for me or not, as it might just be the solution for others.
Among the users Ive seen report the error, quite a few are in a situation that resembles mine in regard of the game running fine and without user interaction, it suddenly stops working. While that eliminates the good old error , it still does leave room for it to be caused by some autonomous software, like an AV solution that updates itself or similar.
